The precise art of nanoparticles: ISAB poster and exhibitor hosted session at SOT, Baltimore, March 12-16
ISAB is delivering two presentations detailing its nanoparticle research at this year’s SOT: A poster shows how copper and copper oxide nanoparticles dissolve in the lung, co-authored by Karolinska Institute. And an exhibitor hosted session, held by CSO Per Gerde, explains ‘Generating dry powder aerosols from nanomaterials: A precision art’.
ISAB’s dry powder aerosol generator PreciseInhale will be on display throughout the event at Booth 513, March 12-16. ISAB founder, CSO and inventor of PreciseInhale Per Gerde will deliver an exhibitor hosted session revealing how PreciseInhale generates dry powder aerosols from nanoparticles, and what added precision, range and data it gives to tox research.
Copper and copper oxide nanoparticle research poster
Cooper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) are manufactured for common use in car catalysts—despite early indications they may induce cytotoxicity, oxidative stress and genetic toxicity. Crucial to better understanding the risks, is better understanding how they dissolve in the lungs when inhaled. ISAB’s poster ‘Comparison of Dissolution/Absorption Profiles of CuO and Cu Nanoparticles by Using the In Vitro Dissolution Ranking Tool DissolvIt®’ gives detailed data on in vitro tests, showing absorption and dissolution curves of inhaled CuO NPs.
The poster is part of ISAB’s long-running nanoparticle collaboration with Karolinska Institute’s (KI’s) senior researcher and Associate Professor of Environmental Medicine Hanna Karlsson, and her team at KI’s Institute of Environmental Medicine. Hanna’s team carries out nanoparticle research as part of the European-wide NANoREG project into assessing and measuring the environmental and toxicological risks of Manufactured Nano Materials (MNMs),
ISAB in vitro manager Maria Malmlöf has been a long-term collaborator, and has been crucial to developing ISAB’s in vitro simulation tool DissolvIt: “Knowing more about exactly how nanoparticles dissolve in the lung is critical to a better understanding of the risks. This poster presents a potential method that could be used by all tox researchers to generate exactly such data.”
