Per Gerde to speak at International Particle Toxicology Conference (IPTC) in Singapore
On September 26 ISAB founder and CSO Per Gerde will deliver an abstract on creating controllable aerosols for in vitro and in vivo tests to the 11th IPTC in Singapore. Dr Gerde delivered a keynote address at Inhalation Asia in Shenyang, China last September, where his ideas created interest in a region carrying out extensive R&D into airborne pollutants.
How can you generate reliable, fine particle aerosols from dry powders, for in vitro and in vivo tests? On 26 September Per Gerde shows how, as part of the 11th IPTC, the first to be held in Asia. This year’s event focuses on particle and fibre toxicology His abstract – “The challenge of creating controlled exposure aerosols of spontaneous- or manufactured fine particles for different exposure models from in vitro to in vivo” – will be presented in the session Control and characterisation of exposure, routes of entry, and translocation in the body.
“Generating a dry powder aerosol that can be controlled precisely, remains a challenge when researching the effects of airborne particles and pollutants,” says Dr Gerde. “In this abstract I will go through the new technologies that allow researchers to do this. Few existing technologies, for example, let researchers set the exact dose of aerosol. In the area of particle research, being able to do this can boost research enormously.”
IPTC is one of the most prestigious events within toxicology research, with particle and fibre toxicology the main focus this year in Singapore. “I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to speaking,” says Dr Gerde. “The IPTC is one of the longest-standing scientific meeting series within toxicology. It brings together the best researchers from their respective fields. I’m greatly looking forward to meeting my peers and colleagues there.”
