“It’s exciting to be at the leading edge”: Analytical chemist Mattias Nowenwik joins ISAB
After three years in IT, three with Octapharma and ten with Pharmacia/Pfizer, analytical chemist Mattias Nowenwik has joined the ISAB team at our labs in Stockholm. Mattias brings a strong strategic skillset with him, with extensive experience in biopharmaceutical R&D, and Software programming and development.

Mattias has worked extensively with Biopharmaceuticals R&D Analysis development, working with HPLC (high pressure liquid chromatography) for both research and routine samples and protein purification. At Octapharma he took part in developing an A4F (Asymmetric flow field-flow fraction) method.
A key role at ISAB will be handling LaminarPace, our recently upgraded spray drying micronization system (recently purchased and installed at a major pharma company in Sothern Europe). Previously he has used mainly freeze drying technology: “You can see the advantage,” Mattias says. “LaminarPace is kinder to the substances you dry, the risk of destroying the substance, which can happen with freeze drying, is minimal.”
Unlike other systems LaminarPace operates at room temperature, so even delicate substances remain active after being micronized. An upgraded version, now available for purchase, gives important benefits to toxicologists and environmental respiratory researchers. It typically requires just 10 – 500 mg of test substance per batch and is specially tailored to handle small particles down to 1-5 µm (microns.)
