Value Proposition
The DustGun® system requires minimal preprocessing of a compound before testing. Small amounts – often less than 100 mg – of a substance/new chemical entity are needed to generate all aerosol exposures necessary to complete the critical first screening of a lead compound for its potential as an inhalable drug.
The objective is to be able to predict and validate the deposition, absorption, metabolism, and mechanism of action following inhalation of a drug in the human lung, leading to early first in human studies such as microdosing.
This means that the selection criteria for new chemical entities can be tested very early in the development process, and more compounds can be analysed to a higher degree of certainty.
The high quality data produced for the candidates in real inhalation exposures will speed up passage through the discovery phase as
- the pharmacokinetic data we derive enable us to discard poor performing drug candidates early on in development and with only a minimal effort invested in expensive formulation work.
- the promising candidates selected can be advanced into the clinic at a much earlier stage than possible before.
- the risk of expensive failures because of poor PK & ADME performance in the clinic will be substantially reduced.
By data base comparison and pharmacokinetic modelling the system can also predict the absorption and metabolism of pharmaceutical compounds intended for pulmonary administration based on physical, chemical and pharmacological properties. The experimental set up then provides the data that is required to validate theoretical model predictions
Inhalation Sciences AB provides data that are more rapid, more informative, and more relevant to man using only minimal amounts of test substance.
The DustGun® system will facilitate the decision-making process and save costs in the pharmaceutical research and development process.
