About the company
The Company
Inhalation Sciences Sweden AB is developing a technology platform aiming at accelerating drug discovery timelines and to reduce attrition rates in the clinical phase when developing pharmaceuticals intended for inhalation administration
The company provides fee-for-service contract research for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and other industrial clients. The objective is to become a world leading supplier of products and services to companies developing inhalation drugs.
Invented at Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute
The Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute (LRRI) is one of a handful of private, basic science, biomedical research organisations totally dedicated to respiratory disease research. Dr Per Gerde worked as a visiting scientist at LRRI in the 1990s, where he first developed new technology for forming aerosols of dry powders intended for inhalation. The technology was given the name “DustGun®”, and has potential commercial applications in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases, and in environmental medicine.
Further development at Karolinska Institutet
When Dr Gerde returned to Sweden in 1999, he continued his research on the DustGun® technology at the Division of Physiology, National Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet (KI) in Stockholm. Dr Gerde and Karolinska Innovations AB founded a company, DustGun Technologies AB, now Inhalation Sciences Sweden AB, to manage the commercialisation of the technology. This new technology for forming aerosols from dry powders has potential commercial applications in the drug development process, clinical diagnosis, the treatment of respiratory diseases, and in environmental medicine.
